چکیده

We present a finite deformation constitutive theory for non-cohesive granular media. The material model falls in the family of the so-called Cam-clay theories. As typical of Cam-clay models, soil is assumed to be frictional with a logarithmic-type compression. The same state boundary surface––described by ellipses––is taken as yield and plastic potential surface. Hardening is related only to plastic volumetric strains. The large deformation theory is based on the multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient into elastic and inelastic parts. We extend the stress update algorithms from small-strain plasticity to finite plasticity through the logarithmic and exponential mappings and adopt a fully variational characterization of the visco-plastic constitutive updates. 2004 Elsevier B.V. Quasistatic Evolution for Cam-clay Plasticity: Examples of Spatially Homogeneous Solutions

We study a quasistatic evolution problem for Cam-Clay plasticity under a special loading program which leads to spatially homogeneous solutions. Under some initial conditions, the solutions exhibit a softening behaviour and time discontinuities. The behavior of the solutions at the jump times is studied by a viscous approximation.

A variational principle of elastoplasticity and its application to the modeling of frictional materials

Starting from a thermomechanical description of elastoplasticity, a stress-based variational principle is derived. The principle, which generalizes von Mises’s principle of maximum plastic dissipation, reproduces the conventional elastic/hardening-plastic framework applicable to metals as a special case and further proves to be suitable for developing constitutive models for frictional material...

Seventh Framework Programme

This research project deals with nonlinear evolution problems that arise in the study of the inelastic behaviour of solids, in particular in plasticity and fracture. The project will focus on selected problems, grouped into three main topics, namely: 1. Plasticity with hardening and softening, 2. Quasistatic crack growth, 3. Dynamic fracture mechanics. The analysis of the models of these mechan...

Mechanical Properties of Low Plasticity Clay Soil Stabilized with Iron Ore Mine Tailing and Portland Cement

Due to economical and environmental issues, utilization of mineral wastes, e.g. iron ore mine tailing (IOMT), as road materials can be recommended as a sustainable alternative. In the present study, mechanical properties, as well as resistance to freezing and thawing cycles (F-T) of low plasticity clay soil stabilized with different percentages of Portland cement (0, 6, 9, 12 and 15%) and diffe...

Quasistatic Evolution for Cam-clay Plasticity: a Weak Formulation via Viscoplastic Regularization and Time Rescaling

Cam-Clay nonassociative plasticity exhibits both hardening and softening behaviour, depending on the loading. For many initial data the classical formulation of the quasistatic evolution problem has no smooth solution. We propose here a notion of generalized solution, based on a viscoplastic approximation. To study the limit of the viscoplastic evolutions we rescale time, in such a way that the...
